EUROPE – Irish Corrugated packaging company, Smurfit Kappa has developed a new sustainable eCommerce packaging solution for RareBoots4u in a bid to drive sustainability.
Smurfit Kappa has developed packaging that features a ‘striking’ design and clean lines for the supplier of classic football boots.
RareBoots4u was seeking a customized and sustainable packaging solution with the flexibility to contain boots in a wide variety of sizes while promoting its brand.
The Irish company aims to improve RareBoots4u’s sustainability credentials by reducing the company’s material usage.
In addition, the new RareBoots4u box is recyclable, renewable and biodegradable.
Smurfit Kappa UK & Ireland CEO Eddie Fellows said: “This has been an exciting project for us to work on and, together with RareBoots4u, we have been able to develop a 100% paper-based packaging solution that reduces their carbon footprint and works hand-in-hand with their social media strategy.
“From design to inception, the dedicated team at our Barnstaple site provided a fit-for-purpose, easily assembled solution that will help them continue to grow as a business.”
Smurfit Kappa has experience in designing e-commerce packaging for the fashion sector. The company’s eShoe box offers a dual-purpose solution for both retail and online sales.
Created by Jake Self and Cam Sangster, RareBoots4U offers classic boots that are no longer available to buy in stores.
The company supplies to several high-profile footballers worldwide, including Karim Benzema, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount.
Sangster said: “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Smurfit Kappa in developing sustainable packaging for our wide selection of boots.”
Self-described Smurfit Kappa’s design as ‘incredibly unique’ and noted that RareBoots4U had had an ‘excellent’ response to it from customers.
Earlier this year, Smurfit Kappa partnered with UK-based recipe box company Mindful Chef to develop a fully recyclable recipe box.
The solution features corrugated cardboard insulation packs that emit 30% less carbon dioxide than the insulation of Mindful Chef’s previous recipe boxes.
Smurfit Kappa said that in addition to its environmental benefits, the solution can maintain the required temperatures for longer periods.
The move is part of Mindful Chef’s commitment to sustainability across its operations. The company has been climate-neutral since 2020.
