GERMANY – German packaging machines maker MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection has introduced its latest direct web printer DP 245 for the X-line series of traysealers.

According to the firm, DP 245 operates at a fixed working height and automatically adjusts to the possible gap in the height of finished packs.

The new technology enables safe, reliable and precise markings of trays even with varying product protrusions.

The firm said that handwheels make it simple and convenient to change the printing position on the pack, which minimizes downtime for batch changes.

MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection marking technology product manager Michael Reffke said: “With this new process and IP65 protection, we are taking direct web printing to a new level.”

The variable data like the batch number or the best-before date is printed by the MULTIVAC TIJ 10 using thermal inkjet technology.

One printing head can produce prints with a height of up to 12.7mm, while a second printing head can produce prints with a height of up to 25.4mm, the packaging machine maker said.

MULTIVAC claimed that the printer also offers effective and secure operations like storage of print layouts in the recipe of the traysealer because of its complete integration with the traysealer’s operating interface.

Reffke added: “We deliberately opted for the thermal inkjet process in order to offer our customers real added value in the long term.”

The new offering is cost-effective and has improved print quality in addition to its efficiency, dependability, and precision to make it a low-maintenance thermal inkjet technology.

MULTIVAC said that the water in the ink is heated in this printing technique to obtain print resolutions of up to 600 dpi, which helps to reproduce even the smallest letters, fonts, or codes.

The new DP 245 is also offered in a washdown version that is optional and has IP65 protection.

This version enables wet cleaning of the traysealer and the direct web printer, the company added.

In June, the company launched W 500 as a universal flowpacking solution, which offers a high level of flexibility for packing a wide range of food products, including bakery goods.

Multivac said the addition of the new W 500 horizontal flowpacker to its product range provides customers with more flexibility in packaging a range of food products such as minced meat, burgers, cevapcici, sausages, cheese, and frozen fish.
